LUMPENPROLETARIAT—Of course, the bride need not be female. Perhaps, this contribution by Morrissey may be interpreted as an argument for the polyamorous movement, of which Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre are notable examples. The old cliche was of the man-hating dyke. We trust this isn’t simply the male iteration.
In this dirge-like plea, Morrissey reflects, not only on the Veblenian condemnation of the trophy wife, but the very desire to be one as well. Like his latest album cover, the artist seems to question whether it’s possible, ultimately, to teach an old dog new tricks.

PITCHFORK—(9 JUNE 2014) One of the Mozziest song titles in quite a while has got to be “Kick the Bride Down the Aisle”, a track off Morrissey‘s upcoming World Peace Is None of Your Business.
