LUMPENPROLETARIAT—“There are a lot of serious people, who have really thought about the world very hard. And they’ve seen certain things about the world. And what they have seen is our resource.

“What the critical method does is take what they have seen and to work on it and to transform it into something different. And one of the things he [Marx] later said, which I think captures his method admirably is he says the way in which you do that transformation is you take radically different conceptual blocks and you rub them together and you make revolutionary fire.”- David Harvey, Reading Marx’s Capital: Lecture 1

  • Marx’s three central conceptual blocks:  classical political economy, classical critical German philosophy, and utopian socialism
  • Commodities, Value, Use Value, and Exchange Value
